Mt. Whitney Training | Hike #4 | Mt. Wilson

Hike #4 in our Mt. Whitney training: Mt. Wilson!

You can read about our previous training hikes here: El Cajon Mountain, Mt. Baden Powell, Mt. Baldy.

We woke up early on a Saturday morning to drive the few hours to hike Mt. Wilson. We knew the hike would be a long one distance wise although it was one of the easier ones in terms of max elevation. Although it was one with lots of climbing! It was all a gradual uphill on the way there, with a lot of down hill on the way back and by the end of the 14 miles, my legs were definitely feeling it.

We had pretty good weather overall for the hike, except for a ton of fog at the top! We started with some clouds and the perfect morning temperature, were freezing at the top and had no view at all, and then ended the afternoon with it being pretty warm. It’s a bummer we couldn’t see any views from the top, and I’m motivated to do this hike again in the future just to see the views, but overall I think we got lucky with weather since it wasn’t too hot.

We spent a little bit of time at the top eating a snack and soaking up the ‘views’ before heading back down. The lower we went the more it cleared up and at least we had some pretty views on the way out!

Overall it was a good hike! It was challenging because of the long distance and climb, but overall one of the easier ones that we did (in my opinion anyway) during our training.
