Utah & Arizona Road Trip [Pt. 2 - Bryce National Park]

In case you missed my first post about Zion, my husband and I went on a road trip through Utah and Arizona this past fall. After spending time in Zion with family, our next stop was Bryce Canyon National Park! We left Zion around midday to begin the drive to Bryce, which is about 1.5 to 2 hours.

We didn’t plan a ton of time in Bryce (the first thing I would do differently next time - more time here!) so our first stop once arriving in the area was to head straight to the park. Since we didn’t have a lot of time before we wanted to head to our campsite to set up before dark, we just hit up the most popular viewpoints- sunrise point, inspiration point, bryce point, sunset point.

It was so gorgeous, and so cold. I remember it being super windy on some of those viewpoints, we felt frozen.

After our quick time in Bryce, we headed to our campsite. We didn’t camp within the park, but instead we drove a little ways to Kodachrome Basin State Park. We had a reservation here and I cannot say enough nice things about this campground. The sites were nice and private, the campground was surrounded by beautiful views, and oh my gosh the bathrooms. After hiking everyday and not showering, we were very excited to see that the bathrooms had showers. And not just showers, but warm water, a rainfall showerhead, and heat!! It looked like the bathrooms were recently renovated and they definitely spoiled us. The best bathrooms of the trip, by far.

After eating a dinner by candlelight (pro tip: buy battery operated candles for some nice ambiance while camping), we took our showers and got cozy in our tent. We had an early morning the next day to pack up the campsite and head in to Bryce for a hike!

That morning we were back in the park and did the Queens Garden / Navajo Loop Trail. It was a photographers dream at golden hour! I highly recommend this hike. It’s a relatively easy hike and a fun way to see the hoodoos from a different perspective that the viewpoints alone can’t give you.

The hike ended our time in Bryce (like I said, way too short! I don’t even think we touched half the park) and we were on to our next destination: Page, Arizona.
